I haven’t used My SmartBike for a long time and now it doesn’t turn on when I press the button

If you haven’t used the eBike for more than 60 days, it has automatically entered sleep mode. To activate it, connect the charger. In addition, the battery may have entered ultra-sleep mode, in which case you must leave it connected to the charger for at least one hour.

Can the internal battery be replaced?

Replacing the battery also requires an additional process that only the distributor with the proper tools can perform, so it can only be replaced within the official network.

Can a MAHLE display be installed on the SmartBike?

MAHLE systems support the ANT+ LEV profile, so using a display such as Pulsar ONE is fully compatible with your system.

Is it compatible with other displays?

You can find other compatible displays here: https://www.thisisant.com/directory/

Can electronic shifting be installed or retrofitted on the eBike?

Technically, it can be done, but the wiring of some OEM integrations could be complicated from the end-user’s perspective.

How much does the range extender increase my range?

The eX1 range extender provides an additional 171 Wh. As with internal batteries, the increase in autonomy depends on several factors such as how the eBike is used, environmental conditions, rider conditions, etc. But it can be said that it could increase the autonomy by around 50% with iX3 batteries and 75% with iX2 batteries.

Can the eBike battery be upgraded to one with more capacity?

Consult your distributor, since changing batteries will modify the specifications of your eBike. Although both batteries share mounting points, they have different dimensions, so replacement may not be possible in some cases. Any battery replacement also requires activation of the new one by the distributor.

In case of a system incident, what should I do?

If you have a main unit with a display, it will show an error or warning. If you don’t have a display, you must connect to the MAHLE MySmartBike app to check the diagnostic code number that identifies the incident and share it with the authorized distributor or customer service.

Can the battery be repaired?

The battery is a hazardous object, so MAHLE recommends that only a MAHLE specialist handle it and that it be replaced with a new one through the official distributor network.

Can the system be updated?

Yes, visit our website for all the information on how to update your system: https://mahle-smartbike.com

Why does the main unit blink when the battery is about to run out?

The LED bar of the main unit will light up in the color of the activated assistance level and show the actual battery charge status. When the battery charge is below 10%, the LED bar begins to blink to warn you. When the charge is below 5%, the blinking is faster to warn you that the system may shut down at any moment.

The system is too powerful or not powerful enough, can I reduce or increase the power?

Of course. The X System includes the function to adjust power, acceleration, and responsiveness. To make proper adjustments, install the MySmartBike APP, link your eBike, and go to motor configuration. Custom settings allow you to configure your own power.

What is the autonomy of the batteries?

Autonomy depends on weight and load carried, terrain elevation, wheel size, assistance used, motor configuration, speed, and type of battery installed. As a reference:

Internal Battery Minimum Range Maximum Range
iX2 40 km 100 km
iX3 60 km 140 km
iM5 35 km / 2500 m+ 100 km / 2500 m+
iM8 45 km / 2500 m+ 150 km / 2500 m+

Remember that in X systems, you can always add the external e185 range extender which almost doubles the internal iX2 battery.

How long does it take to charge the internal battery?

You can obtain 80% charge after the first 2 hours under standard conditions. The last part of the charge takes longer depending on the battery version, but the maximum charging time is about 4 hours.

Internal Battery 80% Charge Time 100% Charge Time
iX2 2 h XX
iX3 2 h 4 h
iM5
iM8

5 minutes after reaching full charge, the eBike shuts off automatically.

Troubleshooting (selected highlights)
  • Bike does not charge: Check charger connection, cables, and temperature range (-10 ºC to 35 ºC).

  • Battery does not charge above 80%: Recalibrate by fully discharging then charging continuously for 3–4 hours.

  • Bike takes long to start charging: Recovery charging may take longer if deeply discharged or exposed to extreme temperatures.

  • Autonomy problems: Confirm conditions, recalibrate battery, contact distributor if persists.

  • Battery/charger overheating: Ensure cool, ventilated environment, check for moisture, use APP engineering mode to check temperature.

  • Bike shuts off when fully charged: Confirm charge, check temperature range, contact distributor if persists.

  • Bike does not turn on / slow to turn on: Leave charger connected 2–3 hours, check temperature range.

  • HMI shows wrong color: Update the bike.

  • Cannot pair with APP: Check Bluetooth, update app, restart phone, disable power saving, try another phone.

  • Screens don’t change when pressing HMI button: Check battery, button condition, moisture/dirt.

  • Assistance issues: Check wheel sensor, Autoassist function, recalibrate.

  • Motor noise: Clean bike thoroughly, inspect drivetrain, record video if persists.

  • Lights issues: Check APP settings, compatibility (max 24 W), disable flashing option if needed.
